Set back behind Phyllis Theroux’s house in Ashland, Virginia, the cottage is intended for someone who wants to get away for a few days or weeks to focus upon a particular project. NightWriters for One combines quiet independence with daily editorial assistance from Phyllis who is only a few steps across the garden from your cottage door.

The cozy, board-and-bat bungalow is all on one floor, with a separate bedroom, full bath, computer-equipped writing alcove, kitchen facilities, dining area and living room with a bay window overlooking the garden. A side door opens onto a private sitting area. Centrally heated and air-conditioned, it is furnished with things that most writers need: books, magazines, music, a coffee pot and refrigerator, a comfortable sofa for taking naps - and a built-in editor.
